JEREMIC: KOSOVO PARTITION IS NOT AND WILL NOT BE SERBIA'S PROPOSAL
BERLIN, Oct 6 (Tanjug) - Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said to political weekly Der Spiegel that Kosovo partition has never been and will never be a Serbian proposal. He underlined that when it came to the Serbian initiative that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) reviewed the legality of Kosovo's unilateral independence declaration, what Serbia sought was not confrontation, but rather legal advice. No one should vote for our political option, but rather only for the right of one member of the United Nations to seek an advisory opinion from the ICJ, Jeremic said commenting on the claims that he had sought support for Serbia's initiative, which the UN will decide on Wednesday, from over 100 foreign ministers, and underlined that so far, similar claims had been put forward 21 times, and that none of them had been rejected. Jeremic said that the issue here was whether the unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence was in keeping with international law, which the ICJ should give its advisory opinion on. The court can do this, but only provided that it is required to do so by the UN General Assembly, Jeremic concluded.
